SEA Teacher Project

General Overview

SEA Teacher or Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia is a project initiated by the Southeast Asian Ministry of Education Organization (SEAMEO). This project aims to provide opportunities for Southeast Asian students to have teaching experience (practicum) in schools in other countries in Southeast Asia. Specially, the aims of SEA Teacher project are:

  1. To enable the student teachers to develop their teaching skills and pedagogy.
  2. To encourage the student teachers to practise their English skills.
  3. To allow the student teachers to gain a broader regional and world view.
  4. To expose future teachers to diverse teaching and learning situations and opportunities, and the value of flexibility.

This project is preferably for the 4th year students whose majors are in Math, Science, English, Pre-school, Economic Education, Physical Education, Elementary/Primary, and Social Science. The duration of the exchange programme is one month, which is based on the mechanism of cost sharing, and takes place twice a year usually in January and July. As the goals of this project to encourage the student teachers to practise their English skills, the communication language for this project is English. English is used in all activities throughout the programme and the student teachers’ roles and responsibilities are assigned weekly during the one-month practicum.

Universitas Kristen Indonesia (UKI) has participated this project since the 8th batch. The 8th batch has been held on August-September 2019. During this period, UKI sent 4 students (2 students were sent to CRRU, Thailand and 2 students were sent to DMMMSU, The Philippines) and at the same time, UKI received 2 students from Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), The Philippines.

General Requirements :

He/she should have:

  1. Readiness both physically and mentally
  2. Good command in English
  3. Letter of recommendation from faculty/ study program
  4. Valid passport
  5. 3rd-4th year (Semester 6- Semester 7) students whose majors are in Math, Science, English, Pre-school, Economic Education, Physical Education, Elementary/Primary, and Social Science
  6. Ability to teach in classroom
  7. Minimum GPA 3.00
  8. Good health condition (Surat Keterangan Sehat) 
  9. Parent Permission Letter
  10. Minimum expenses (IDR 1.500.000)

Active in students organization (student bodies, UKM, etc)

 

7th Evaluation Meeting of SEA Teacher Project

On March 28 – 29 2019, Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Legal Affairs, and Cooperation, Dr.rer.pol. Ied Veda R. Sitepu, S.S., M.A, represented UKI at 7th evaluation meeting of SEA Teacher Project. This event was held in Ballroom Grand Alora Hotel Kedah, Malaysia. Dr.rer.pol. Ied Veda R. Sitepu, S.S., M.A signed the Letter of Agreement with Southeast Asian Ministry of Education Organization (SEAMEO) for SEA Teacher Batch 8th . this letter of agreement UKI will participate on SEA Teacher Project. SEA Teacher projejct remarks the bold step of uki to step forward to enter the global world.

 

SEA Teacher Batch 8th

SEA Teacher or Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia is a project initiated by the Southeast Asian Ministry of Education Organization (SEAMEO). This project aims to provide opportunities for Southeast Asian students to have teaching experience (practicum) in schools in other countries in Southeast Asia.

UKI’s first participation in SEA Teacher Project was Batch 8th . The 8th batch held on August-September. During this period, UKI sent 4 students (2 students were sent to CRRU, Thailand and 2 students were sent to DMMMSU, The Philippines) and UKI received 2 students from Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, The Philippines (DMMMSU).

Pre Departure Ceremony by Rector

As sending university, UKI played significant roles to prepare the students teachers before departure. UKI has to assist the students teachers to prepare lesson plans and discuss curriculum with partner universities prior to departure and during the exchange period. It is also suggested that sending universities.

UKI sent 4 students for participating in SEA Teacher Project batch  8th 2019. The students are Arya Wira Kusuma (Faculty of Social and Political Science); Kania (Faculty of Teacher Training and Education); Thu Hema Varni (Faculty of Teacher Training and Education); Catherine (Faculty of Letters)

Arya and Kania were sent to DMMMSU, Philippines: 10 Aug – 7 Sep 2019

Varni and Catherine were sent to CRRU,Thailand: 3 Aug – 31 Aug 2019

 

UKI as Receiving University

As receiving University, UKI had to identify school partners for practicum and inform afterwards the school names to the SEAMEO Secretariat. Afterwards, UKI collaborated with Sekolah Harapan Prestasi cawang at this project. UKI received 2 students from DMMMSU, The Philippines. They are Jehan P Gallicha and Claudette Hidalgo. Both of them are taking Bachelor of Elementary Education. They arrived at Jakarta on Aug 24 2019. The inbound students did their internship at Sekolah Harapan Prestasi Cawang for one month.
